WHAT MAKES THE MARCHE REGION UNIQUE
The Marche have a rich variety of food excellences, thanks to several important aspects: first of all the unique geographic and climatic conditions, then the production process made respecting the local traditions.
These elements are recognized by the European Union as a quality guarantee; there are some certifications born to protect the food local origin and processing.
THE DOP LABEL
The DOP label, Denomination of Protected Origin, means that each part of food processing has to be done only in a delimited geographic zone.
In our region we have 6 products recognized as DOP: Olio Extravergine di Cartoceto, Oliva Ascolana, Casciotta di Urbino, Formaggio di Fossa di Sogliano, Prosciutto di Carpegna and Salamini italiani alla cacciatora.
THE IGP LABEL
Another important quality mark is IGP, Protected Geographic Indication; in this case, only one productive phase has to be completed inside the protected geographic zone but not everyone as for the DOP.
The IGP products in Le Marche are 7: Ciauscolo, Maccheroncini di Campofilone, Patata rossa di Colfiorito, Lenticchia di Castelluccio, Vitellone bianco dell’Appennino centrale, Agnello del centro Italia and Mortadella.
THE SLOW FOOD PRESIDIUM
In our region we also have some important Slow Food Presidium towards that local traditions risking to disappear: Salame di Fabriano, Lonzino di fico, Carciofo di Montelupone, Mosciolo selvatico di Portonovo, Mela rosa dei Sibillini, Pecorino dei Monti Sibillini, Cicerchia di Serra de’ Conti.
Many other Made in Marche products are food excellences such as truffle: the most precious is white truffle ( tuber magnatum Pico), famous in Acqualagna but also in other parts of the region.
In the Marche, there are a lot of food excellences to discover, paired with a rich variety of wines, both DOC and DOCG wines.
ENJOY MARCHE selects some of these excellences, the ones that considers ‘unmissable’ for someone travelling to the Marche, putting the most authentic local flavours inside a bag.
The choice endorses products packaged by hand with high-quality ingredients, to let people take and preserve them in an easier way. They consist of a Made in Marche ‘aperitivo’ , a ‘primo piatto’ and a ‘dolce’.
